HORN
There were two Horn men in the earliest settlement at Jamestown, but I have not yet been able to connect them to our family. However, I know that our family was in Virginia in the mid 1600's, and their location indicates they may have been related to the earlier Jamestown men. We also have some devout Quakers in our family, beginning with Henry Horn, son of William, born in 1716, and some of his sons continued in that faith.
Our earliest known ancestor is Thomas Horn, born about 1665, in Virginia. There was a man named Thomas Horn who purchased property in Virginia in 1665, who was probably the father of this Thomas, but I do not have the documentation to prove it. This Thomas and his wife Catharine are identified in Cynthia Herren's Nash County, North Carolina, Vital Abstracts of Early North Carolina Residents, as the parents of William Horn.
William Horn, born about 1695, maybe in Nansemond County, Virginia, where his son, Henry was born in 1716. Henry Horn purchased land in Edgecombe County, North Carolina in 1762, and later in 1768. He married Ann Pursel in 1737, and their children were Isaac, William, Esther, Henry, jr., Jacob, Morning, Phebe, Joel, Thomas, Charity, Shelah, Demarias, and Jeremiah, born in 1763. This was the man who became a Quaker.
Nathan Horn, the son of Jacob, was born in North Carolina, but immigrated to Barbour County, Alabama, where he married Margaret Carroll about 1835. They were the parents of several children and the Horn family proliferated in southern Alabama.
